7 Bowling Tips To Improve Bowling Game

We’ve heard it many times before… practice makes perfect. And for good reason-it’s the truth! The best way to get better at anything is to practice; bowling is no exception. However, how you practice will mean the difference between slowly improving and supercharging your game!

Bowling Tip #1: Use the right tools

In any sport, using the correct equipment for the job you have to do improves your performance. In bowling, the ball is the most important piece of equipment you will use, so choose the right one for the job! Be sure to try out many, and select one that’s the right weight, material and finger-grip fit.

Bowling Tip #2: Are you bowling enough?

To progress at bowling, you need to bowl at least once or twice a week. The most economical way to get this amount of practice in is by joining a league. Usually, the more experienced players show up before the game to practice. This is when you can learn the most, from people committed to the sport.

Bowling Tip #3: Learn to walk the walk

While professional bowlers tend to use a 5-step approach, that’s just not suitable for someone just learning the sport. Beginners are usually more comfortable with a 4-step approach. You can practice your approach without throwing a single ball. Keep your shoulders square to the front, your head up, arm swing smooth, and your pace consistent and even.

Bowling Tip #4: Let ‘em roll

Spend time rolling the ball. A bowling ball should never be thrown. How do you tell the difference? A thrown ball will land with a loud “clunk” and then slide a few feet before beginning to roll. A rolled ball lands quietly and quickly rolls down the lane. If you find that you’re in the habit of throwing the ball, simply slow down. Try taking a slow, deep breath or two before bowling to settle any anxiety. You will hit more pins with a rolled ball than with a thrown one.

Bowling Tip #5: What you think is what you do

Spend time visualizing and analyzing your shots. Visualize your movements and your shots before you do them. If your ball goes consistently too far right, begin a little further left. You will learn to “feel” when you’ve bowled a good ball. When you do, write it down before you forget. What did you do? How did the ball feel? Where did the ball hit? Keep it for future reference so you can do it again.

Bowling Tip #6: What if I can’t be at the alley enough to practice?

Any smooth surface with a long, clear distance is suitable for practicing your approach. It’s not safe to practice the release, however, as a bowling ball will easily roll straight through walls if you miss your target! Not to mention you’ll ruin the surface of your ball. When practicing at home, mark your foul line and arrows in masking tape or other material that will not damage your floor. Also mark where your toes need to be for each step. Practice your approach until it’s second nature.
You can practice your arm swing outdoors with a bucket of water with a small hole at the bottom. The water drops on the ground will mark the path of your arm and the direction the ball would go. It’s a good way to see if you arc around your body when you bowl and which direction your arm is going. This can be a very enlightening experience.

Bowling Tip #7: Don’t spare yourself the trouble

It’s a very good idea to practice picking up your spares. A bowler who can consistently pick up his spares can easily hold a 180 average without getting any strikes. It’s especially useful to practice bowling at the 7-or 10-pins by aiming at them and bowling across the strike zone (the “x” on the lane) from the opposite side of the lane.
By practicing these bowling techniques on a regular basis, you’ll be honing the skills that will help you improve your bowling game!

Bowling Tips - Introduction To Bowling

The sport of Bowling (also known as tenpin bowling) is an indoor sport in which a ball between 6 and 16 lbs. in weight is rolled down a lane about 42 inches wide by 60 feet long from the foul line to the head pin, in an effort to knock down 10 pins set in a triangular array at the end of the lane. Whether you would like to bowl with some friends or decide to join a bowling league, the social value of ten pin bowling is one of its greatest gifts. One of the many attributes of the game is that people of all skill levels can play, with a maximum of two shots per frame, regardless of where the ball goes on the lane. And the best part is that people of all generations can play. Children, parents, spouses, and grandparents can bowl together. Not many other sports have this feature.

Bowling is played with the use of a bowling ball and the object is to knock down as many pins possible with the least number of throws. Every player is allowed 10 frames or turns, with each frame composed of two rolls. If a bowler manages to knock down a complete set, it is called a strike. But if there are still remaining pins, those that are knocked down are counted and removed. Then the player has another opportunity to roll a second ball and if she manages to knock all remaining pins then it is called a spare. This process continues until everyone has completed their turns in the frame. After which the game proceeds to the next frame. Bonus points are awarded in case of a strike or a spare.

The pins are arranged in an equilateral triangle, the back row has four pins, the next one has three, and the next has two and the last row (front of the lane, also called the head pin) consist only of one pin aligned at the center. The pins have numeration to ease the references of pins, beginning with the single pin in front as one, and ends at ten at the back and rightmost pin. With nowadays technology, the pins are automatically set by the machine, unlike they had previously been set by a human pinsetters or ‘pin boys’.

Tenpin Bowling has a unique scoring system that is commonly confusing to new bowlers who attempt to score a game with multiple "marks" (strikes and spares). Bowling scores tend to be unintuitive: if a bowler was to knock down 9 pins with her first shot but miss her spare every frame, she would have a score of 90; if the same bowler were to make all of her spares and knock down 9 with the bonus ball, she would have a score of 190. If she were to carry all ten pins with each shot and strike with each of her bonus balls in the tenth frame, she would have shot a "perfect game" of 300.

How to Play Tennis - Learning Skills and Shots like the Pro’s

Tennis is great sport to learn and one that becomes more exciting as you become better and able to play some of the more difficult shots. Most people learn how to play tennis during high school but whereas some do well, others struggle to learn the skills that make a good tennis player.

The good news is that learning tennis is certainly not only for school time. There are plenty of ways to learn tennis skills, shots and techniques, from books to videos to resources online. Depending on your finances you can even choose to hire a tennis coach, although regular lessons can amount to a substantial amount of money.

Hiring a tennis coach is a good way to become a good tennis player as long as the coach has a lot of experience or a good reputation as an instructor. Many tennis coaches are people who have been very good and played at a good level, but didn’t quite manage to make it to professional level. Hiring a coach based on their playing ability shouldn’t necessarily be top priority though as there is many that are good at playing but find it difficult to coach another person. This means that coaching reputation needs to be considered foremost.

With the internet has come the greatest resource to teach people whatever they want to learn, and tennis is no different. The problem with learning about tennis online though is that it becomes difficult to envisage what you are reading. I’ll give you an example:

The Volley Shot

When you take on a volley shot keep the wrist stiff. This should be for both high and low volleys, with the wrist position behind the line of the racquet head. The force of the incoming shot is very often enough to return the ball, but more weight can be applied to provide more power to the shot.

This explanation gives a good example of the volley, but it is nowhere near as beneficial as watching a demonstration. A picture (or even better, video) speaks a thousand words.

See my recommendation on a great video package on How to Play Tennis; quite possibly the best video training resource for improving your tennis.

Tennis for Beginners

If you are looking for a way to quickly learn the basics of tennis, you would be happy to know there is a lot of different ways to deal with the problem. You can always hire a tennis coach, although that would probably not be the cheapest way to go. There are also a lot of online tennis guides and tutorials to help you, often with the same price (or less) as one tennis lesson with a professional tennis coach. I’ve tried a few online tennis tutorials, and I’d be happy to share some information about tennis for beginners.

For a new tennis player, the basic movements of the different types of strokes are probably the main thing to practice, like forehand, backhand and serve. To easily and quickly improve you serve there are a few things to simplify. Foot positioning, the service motion, the ball toss and serving technique are all things to simplify. By making sure you have a solid base when you serve and making sure you start with your racket back and above your head, tossing the ball and swinging towards the ball, adding more and more power to your swing as you get more comfortable with the motion, you will certainly improve your serve. When you have the motion down, just keep hitting those serves, consistency is the way to go.

Learning tennis for beginners can be hard, especially on a clay court. Getting into position on clay is tougher than on other surfaces. Even pros can have difficulties with their footwork on clay, but almost every one of them knows how to deal with it. By taking small fast steps across the whole court and sliding to the ball before hitting it. A good tennis drill is to try taking about 10 steps or more from the time you strike the ball to the next time you hit it, also getting used to sliding. This will improve your footwork and at the same time teach you how clay court tennis differs from other types of courts.

This article has now given you some insight on tennis for beginners, and I hope you will have it easier choosing which type of tennis training suits you.

Bringing along the right materials is a necessary when camping. Here is some advice about what you should bring along a camp trip:

You should only pack clothes that will be necessary for you to wear when camping. You don’t want to over-pack, because over-packing will only become a burden to you. You will not exactly have a lot of places to store your clothes. Here is a basic list of clothes to bring:

Family Fun Activities - How To Have Fun With Your Family

Are you looking for some family fun activities? Do you wonder how to have fun with your family? Family entertainment is often advertised as expensive and requiring a great deal of planning, but the truth is that real family fun is neither. While the family fun activities each family enjoys are unique to each individual family, there are only three simple rules to follow to enjoy fun together: Keep it cheap, keep it simple, and keep it together.

It is important to keep the majority (if not all) of your family fun activities either inexpensive or free. Most families are on a tight budget and simply cannot afford to engage in costly recreation on a regular basis. So why not create some fun activities that are cheap or even free? If your entertainment is free or cheap then you are much more likely to engage in it on a regular basis. Take a look around your community for opportunities. Look for community parks and events, keep a note of church or school activities from concerts to plays, and plan activities for your family that could include friends such as a backyard treasure hunt or kickball game. While a trip to the amusement park can certainly be fun, your children will also enjoy just having fun in their own backyard with you.

While it is occasionally OK to go all out with a family entertainment outing, most of the time you should keep your family fun simple. If you spend too much time and energy planning or organizing the fun then you will not have the time and energy to enjoy the fun and your family. Plus, the simple truth is that simple is often better when it comes to kids. If you are together then your activity can be as simple as a walk or day in the park. It is also important to remember that is you regular plan complicated outings then you will need to keep creating ever more complicated arrangements to keep their interest.

However if you start simple and small then you have a lot of room to increase the level of activity.

Finally, the one important element you need to remember when planning your family fun is to keep it together. What you do and where you do it is not important so long as you do it as a family. The together is what is important (and of course the fun) but everything else is not.

There are only three basic rules for family fun: keep it cheap, keep it simple, and keep it together. If you and your family follow these rules then you can easily plan a lifetime of family fun that will bring your family closer together.
